Queenstown and Lakes District

In Otago and you haven't been to the lakes district, you really are missing out. Some say stay away, they say there are to many people, but in reality there is no one here. This is a vast and hilly land, with great national parks and more waterfalls than you can count. With adventure activities in every corner and beauty all around, no wonder the tourists go here.
The Queenstown and Lakes District is headquartered in Queenstown, which acquired it's name after an Irish town with the same name some time around 1863. The Routeburn Track is world-renowned and starts in Mount Aspiring National Park before it heads over the hills to Fiordland National Park. Lake Wanaka is New Zealand's 4th Largest lake and by my calculations is the most glamorous of all of them. Skippers Canyon is in the area and ghost towns are abundant when you move out of the suburban areas. I could probably name a million other places, but I really think you need to see this for yourself. Go Have Some Fun!
